Sunday 17th December 2017

Third Sunday in Adven

God for whom we wait and watch, you sent your servant John the Baptist to prepare your people for the coming of the Messiah. Inspire the ministers and stewards of your truth to turn our disobedient hearts to you; that, when Christ shall come again in glory to be our judge, we may stand with confidence before him, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end.

Advent is a time of waiting and preparation for Christ’s birth.

Each week, leading up to and including Christmas Day, we will light candles representing Hope,
Peace, Love and Joy. After the candle is lit please join in with following prayer.

Advent Congregational Prayer

Let us Pray

O God, as light comes from this candle,

May the blessing of Jesus Christ come

Warming our hearts and brightening our way.

May Christ our Saviour bring life

Into the darkness of this world, and to us,

As we wait for his coming

Christmas Charity giving. Extraordinary Gifts for Christmas.

This year at Church council it was agreed that we try something different instead of the
Christmas card and various Charity collections. We invite you take part in All We
Can’s Christmas project, raising money to support projects in some of the world’s poorest
communities. Gifts include buying 10 chickens for families in Zimbabwe, supplying sheep to
farmers in Ethiopia, giving access to clean water for school children in Uganda.
The gifts vary in cost from £10.00 - £240. 00 and a catalogue is available with a
description of the different gifts.

There are different options to supporting this appeal.

·       As a family choose a gift and donate the amount. (There will be a form to make your selection)

·       As a Church decide on a project after collection through donations and gift aid envelopes.

·       If you are stuck for ideas for individual friends or family members you can buy your gift (before December 13th) and you will receive a card to pass on to them showing them what a difference the gift will make.

Catalogues and gift aid envelopes are available and a collection box will be placed in the vestibule throughout December.

For more information please talk to Jackie Youens.

Offerings at the Carol Service will be donated to a charity of the Choir’s choice and a donation will be
made to the Church of England Children’s society, following Christingle. (The C of E children’s society
provide some of the materials for Christingle.)

Sunday Club are aiming to raise £12.00 to buy ‘Precious water’ for a school child in Uganda.
